We arrived in Queenstown, New Zealand about 11a on Thursday and got our rental van, a beater Toyota that would hold our luggage and assembled bikes. We loaded up, made sure we knew which side of the road to drive on, grabbed some lunch in Queenstown and then headed for Wanaka.
Bike Check and Wanaka Ride Around
We arrived at Ian and Angie’s house at about 3p and the first order or business was to check out the bikes. I had to deflate my tubeless tires for them to fit into the bike case so I wanted to make sure they reinflated without any trouble. Tubeless tires are awesome, but that first inflation can be tricky if the seals are broken.
Everything looked good so we jumped on the bikes and rode towards the Wanaka lake for a quick spin and to get our bike check stickers from the LBS.
You can see the ride’s Strava data here or watch the video below. The lake trail goes for miles, but we wanted to keep the ride to around 10 flat and easy miles so we turned around when the Garmin hit five miles. It was a beautiful day with great views of the lakes (and the girls sunning themselves by the lake).
