Coronet Peak Ski Area has come of the most stunning views that I’ve seen anywhere. There are lots of shuttle options, but if you want the exercise (and save the $), park at the bottom of the Rude Rock trail (second parking area on the map below) and ride up the road to the bottom of the ski area. From there, you can jump on the single track to the peak. It’s a pretty good climb, but not as bad as riding the dirt access road like we did. That was mostly 20% grades that go forever. Really, really steep. Unless you are pretty fit and have a great granny gear, you’ll be walking.
There’ a short hike from the top of the ski area to the peak. From the top you can see the entire mountain range on all sides.
Regardless of which way you climb, you’ll descent from the peak on the singletrack trail. Keep your eyes open for it. When you get back to the bottom of ski area, turn right on the dirt road, climb a bit and you’ll find the start of the Rude Rock trail. It’s good fun, but watch for the crazies that have shuttled up with their downhill bikes.
You’ll know when you get to the namesake rock. It’s as rude as advertised.
You can see the whole ride in the video below or take a look at the Strava data for our ride here.
